The dental care of young children requires special attention and treatment.
The Geneva dental clinic will take care of your child in order to provide him/her with the best possible care, so that each visit remains pleasant and stress-free.
At what age should you make an appointment for your child?
Ideally, a child’s first visit to the dentist should be between 3 and 4 years.
This is the first contact that allows the child to discover the world of dentistry in the best possible conditions and we will do our very best to make sure this first visit goes as smooth as possible. During this visit, your child will be able to enjoy the many distractions such as a multimedia screen located on the ceiling to make the appointment a pleasant one.
It is best to avoid making this first appointment in a hurry because of pain.
The first visits also have an important role to play in detecting and preventing early caries, which can have a negative impact on permanent teeth. During a dental check-up, your child can also meet one of our dental hygienists, who will help him or her get comfortable with certain cleaning instruments and brushing techniques while using teaching methods appropriate for his or her age.
During the child’s first visit, our dental specialist will gather all the information he needs in order to know your child’s profile. Only then will the specialist invite the child to sit in the chair. He will then carry out the necessary checks (possible presence of caries, dental growth…). In general, no treatment is provided during this first appointment unless the dental practitioner deems it necessary and believes that the child is ready to receive it.
The first X-rays, in the absence of any dental problems or any falling, are usually only taken at the age of 5 or 6 in order to detect any caries that cannot be seen by visual examination. If you do not wish to have these X-rays, the Geneva dental clinic offers a means of early diagnosis of caries by fluorescence.
Here are some tips that will help us in our mission to prevent your children from getting caries :
- Brush your child’s teeth as soon as the first one appears. Up to the age of 3, we recommend limiting the use of fluoride-containing toothpaste (< 6 years) to the size of a grain of rice. Gradually increase the amount of toothpaste afterwards. From the age of 6, use a toothpaste with a fluoride concentration level suitable to the child’s age (6-12 years).
- Limit sweets and other snacks between meals. Candy with the SYMPADENT® logo is available in our shops. They have been tested and approved so as not to cause a carious risk to your children’s teeth.
- Never leave a baby bottle with milk or sweetened drinks (syrup, etc.) for a child to drink at will. This causes serious tooth decay, known as “baby bottle tooth decay”.
The appointment lasts approximately 30 minutes.
Cost of treatment
For a child or a young adult, the cost to treat caries starts at CHF 115.
